Handel’s Messiah in Hexham

The young ensemble Wild Arts are putting on a wonderful concert at Hexham Abbey on 10 December 2024. They are bringing their semi-staged performance of Handel’s masterpiece Messiah to the north of England for the first time and as they are unknown to most audiences in the region, they are keen to reach as many people as possible to tell them all about it.
It is a beautiful production with 8 soloist singers and an orchestra of 12 players led from the harpsichord by Artistic Director Orlando Jopling. The staging has been created with director Tom Morris (previously Artistic Director of Bristol Old Vic and now Associate Director of The National Theatre) and is tailored to each venue.

Rave reviews from the sell-out tour last year…
You have raised the bar so high on the Messiah performance that I can never go back to an ordinary concert version. It was outstanding.

A compelling and wonderfully engaged performance with a vivid sense of drama. This was one of those performances where you went in with polite, supportive expectation and came out won over, having been carried away. The sense of creating a dramatic narrative that the eight singers brought to the music, reacting to events, was palpable, with the instrumental ensemble as alert as the singers.
